CBD

  • Cannabidiol, also known as CBD, is one of at least 113 known cannabinoids derived from the hemp plant. These plant-based cannabinoids are similar in structure to the body’s own cannabinoid system, called the endocannabinoid system. The endocannabinoid system in the human body is responsible for regulating sleep, appetite, anxiety and pain. CBD binds to part of the body’s endocannabinoid receptors to boost the body’s production of its own cannabinoids.

  • YES!! The Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018 (2018 Farm Bill) authorized the production of hemp and removed hemp and hemp seeds from the Drug Enforcement Administration's (DEA) schedule of Controlled Substances. This was a major step in the right direction for the hemp industry and allows the masses to have legal access to this amazing plant! Now you can find some form of CBD for sale in just about every city across the country!

  • CBD products are made from hemp plants, so just like many other products on the market, it’s important to investigate how the source material was treated to determine its overall quality.

Here at MedMeridian, we make that an easy process, as we are the farm, distributor, and retailer all under one roof! This allows us to completely control all aspects of the growing processes in house and allows us to offer an extremely high quality end product. At the end of the flowering cycle, our hemp is harvested by hand, and is then continually tested for quality as it makes its way to its final stages.

Any reputable CBD company will always be transparent and publish the test results for each strain it sells in the form of a Certificate of Analysis (COA). The best COAs test for both potency and purity, meaning they test to determine the percentage of beneficial, therapeutic cannabinoids in the product as well as the purity of the plant, ensuring it is free of harmful levels of pesticides, toxins, metals, or other harmful chemicals.

All of the products that we sell here at MedMeridian have COA’s and are available upon request. Please email us at info@medmeridian.com or use the contact form found here.

  • Legal CBD sold in the USA contains less than 0.3% THC (the psychoactive cannabinoid in the plant) and should not get you high. This is one of the main benefits of CBD, as it allows users to continue their daily routines without interruption.

  • CBD is favored by many because it is an all natural alternative and does not give the psychoactive effects that marijuana does. This allows users to continue with their daily routines and still be able to tap into the abundance of benefits that come from the plant.

  • While both of these cannabinoids are found in the marijuana plant; they both provide a very different type of effect to the human body. The primary difference is the CBD is non-psychoactive and THC is psychoactive. This is the difference between feeling ‘high’ after using cannabis (THC) and not feeling those same effects after using CBD.

  • The entourage effect was recently discovered to show the correlation between the cannabis plants and their compounds. Believers of the entourage effect claim, that when used in combination with each other, extracts produced from the whole cannabis plant increase the efficacy of its benefits. This is something that would not be possible if those same compounds were used in their isolated form.

  • A full-spectrum CBD product includes cannabinoids — even traces of THC — terpenes, and other compounds. There are also broad-spectrum extracts and isolates. The broad-spectrum is like a “light” version of full-spectrum because it contains all the aforementioned substances except for THC. Isolates, in turn, refers to pure cannabinoids that have been separated from the remaining constituents of cannabis. These are flavorless and odorless products that are sold in powders or infused into different items.

  • This is a tricky one to pin down, as everyone is unique in regards to their own bodies and what is needed for them. Based on individual needs, dosage can be drastically different from person to person. It is best to start small and gradually increase until you experience the desired result.

  • Everyone is different, but generally speaking, the effects of CBD can last anywhere between two to six hours. There are a wide variety of factors that play a role in how long the effects last, such as the strength of the CBD, size of dosage, individual metabolism, weight of user, and prior use of CBD. How quickly each product takes to start working also depend on a lot of those same factors.

  • The World Health Organization (WHO) published a safety report stating that you cannot overdose on CBD, more CBD is not always better! CBD has a biphasic effect, which means that too little or too much could be ineffective. To find your the best dose for you, we always recommend starting low with your doses and gradually increasing to achieve your desired effect. Typically, our members start with an average of 20 mg to 30 mg of CBD per day to start off. Over time, users with more established routines take between 20 mg and 50 mg on average.

  • Everyone’s body chemistry is different, so drug testing is kind of a gray area. Knowing that, we can’t definitively say how your body will metabolize our products. However, it is possible to test positive on a drug test with daily and consistent use of full-spectrum CBD products. If you only consume broad spectrum CBD or a CBD isolate, you should never have to worry about failing, as the Delta-9 THC content should be less 0.3% in the product you are consuming.

Think of it as you would when consuming alcohol. If a beer is 5% alcohol by volume (similar to how CBD contain 0.3% THC or less), the amount you consume determines your blood alcohol level (or in this case, THC level in the bloodstream). So the more you ingest at a time, the more likely it will be detected on a test.

If you’re worried, we recommend grabbing an over-the-counter THC test at your local pharmacy to find out for sure. When possible, we also recommend asking for a blood test rather than a urine test if you have the opportunity, as blood tests tend to be more accurate than urine tests. All of our products are federally legal, so you can also supply your employer with our lab results if they have further questions.

  • *Women who are pregnant and/or breastfeeding: We work with a number of women who are pregnant, trying to conceive, and who breastfeed regularly. Unfortunately, there isn’t enough reliable information about the safety of taking products containing cannabidiol (CBD) while you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or trying to get pregnant. We recommend that women who are looking to conceive, are pregnant, and/or breastfeeding should consult with their primary healthcare physician before using any CBD products.

*People with Parkinson’s disease: Cannabidiol may make muscle movement and tremors worse in people with Parkinson’s disease. Therefore, CBD products like the ones we offer should be avoided in patients with Parkinson’s.

*People with a history of hypersensitivity to cannabidiols or any of the ingredients in the CBD products we offer should also avoid using it.

If you are concerned about the effects CBD may have on you, we recommend you consult with your primary healthcare physician before you start taking a hemp-based product. During the consultation, let your doctor know of any other medications that you are taking so they can accurately address any concerns that may arise. Do not take CBD if you are allergic to any of its ingredients, including cannabidiol. If you have any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, call your doctor right away.

 Delta-9 THC

  • Tetrahydrocannabinol, Delta-9 or THC, is the chemical responsible for most of marijuana's psychological effects. It acts much like the cannabinoid chemicals made naturally by the body, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA). Cannabinoid receptors are concentrated in certain areas of the brain associated with thinking, memory, pleasure, coordination and time perception. THC attaches to these receptors, activates them, and gives the user the ‘high’ effect.

  • Delta-9 THC is used medicinally to relieve a wide variety of symptoms of certain conditions. But, because cannabis is federally illegal in the United States, the research on THC is significantly limited. Most of the clinical data out there is based on anecdotal evidence or evidence from practitioners in states where they allow medical marijuana. According to the DEA, marijuana is still a Schedule I substance, which eliminates the ability to do a lot of clinical trial work within the industry.

  • Yes and no. I know - very confusing! Anything with more than 0.3% Delta-9 THC is considered illegal and anything with less than that amount is legal to use. Overall, it is still federally illegal and is a Schedule I substance, according to the DEA. However, over the past 25 years, individual states have slowly began to legalize the use of the substance in some fashion. Here in Wisconsin, Delta-9 THC is mostly illegal for medicinal and recreational use, but there are some cities within the state that have decriminalized the possession of varying amounts of the substance.

  • In the past these, Indica referred to a type or strain of cannabis plant that was known for its calming and relaxing effects. Consumers are often told that Indica has shorter, broader leaves than its close relative sativa, and that it's low in THC and high in CBD.

Sativa, by contrast, was known for the ‘head high’ and its energizing effects. However, in the scientific community today, the distinction between Indica and Sativa has largely disappeared. Most cannabis products available for purchase are plant hybrids with a biochemical content that cannot be determined by appearance.

  • There are a wide variety of factors that come into play in determining how soon a person will feel the effects of using Delta-9. It largely depends on how you consume it, how potent the strain is, your weight and metabolism, and how often you use Delta-9. Generally speaking, it can take anywhere from a few minutes (if inhaling); up to an hour or more (if ingesting) it.

  • Similar to answer above, there are a wide variety of factors that come into play in determining how long a person will feel the effects of using Delta-9. Again, it largely depends on how you consume it, how potent the strain is, your weight and metabolism, and how often you use Delta-9. Generally speaking, it can last anywhere from an hour up to 15 hours.

  • Being high on Delta-9 THC can make you feel alert, happy, relaxed, hungry, confused, and even paranoid. The side effects of Delta-9 THC may vary depending on the strain, the terpenoid content, the way it is consumed, and the person consuming it. While many believe that marijuana is entirely safe and relaxing, it can cause anxiety, paranoia, confusion, and panic for some people.

  • It is generally accepted that using Delta-9 THC (or any form of marijuana) within moderation is safe. However, it can have a negative impact on your health if abused. It primarily depends on how a person consumes it. For instance, if it is being smoked (inhaled), it can certainly damage your lungs. In frequent users, side effects like bronchitis and a buildup of air pockets in between the lungs are common. The extent of lung damage caused by marijuana use depends on how you smoke and how often you smoke it.

  • As the years go by, the ways people consume marijuana is always expanding and evolving. The most common forms of consuming it are smoking it and consuming an edible version of the substance. However, you can also use vaporizers, dab rigs, tinctures, oils, topical cream (Salves), inhalers, patches, pills, and even suppositories.

  • If you find that you smoked or ate too much cannabis, the best thing to do is to remain calm. Even though it may feel overwhelming, you will certainly be okay as time goes by. Next, to reduce the effects of the Delta-9 THC, drink plenty of water to flush your system out. In addition to drinking water, you can also use CBD oil or chew on black peppercorn to reduce the effects of Delta-9 THC. You can also try to change your scenery by taking a walk and getting some fresh air, or relax in a warm bath to calm yourself. Just keep in mind that the feeling can only last so long and it will eventually wear off.

  • There has never been a recorded incident of overdosing on cannabis; meaning no one has ever died due to consuming too much of it. That doesn’t mean that it doesn’t have some negative side effects when abused. It can lead to anxiety, paranoia, and loss of coordination, leading to nausea or vomiting.

As with consuming any substance that will alter your state of mind, start small/slow and gradually work your way up to a place that you feel comfortable with.

THC-A

  • THCa stands for tetrahydrocannabinolic acid, and it’s the precursor cannabinoid to THC. THCa, as it is, is non-psychoactive, but it turns into the psychoactive compound THC when exposed to heat (cooking, smoking, vaping).

  • Decarboxylation turns THCA into THC by removing the extra carboxyl group in its chemical structure. This chemical reaction is triggered by exposure to high temperatures, heat, or light. This process changes THCA’s chemical composition or structure, converting it into THC.

  • THCa itself is not thought of as potent at all, having limited to no psychoactive effects. However, heating it via cooking, smoking, vaping, or other methods, turns it into THC. As crystalline THCA can be sold in very high concentrates, applying one of these methods to THCA to convert it to THC can have very potent effects.

  • Currently, yes! The 2018 Farm Bill legalized hemp and its derivatives, which includes THCa, as long as the final product contains no more than 0.3% Delta-9 THC on a dry weight basis. The cannabinoid THCa is compliant with the Farm Bill because it’s not listed as a Controlled Substance.

  • Short answer, yes. In order to get the psychoactive effects from THCa it needs to go through decarboxylation. During this process, the THCa is converted into THC, which can in turn lead to a failed drug test.

 Delta-8 THC

  • Tetrahydrocannabinol (Delta-8 THC) is one of the hundreds of cannabinoids found naturally in hemp, but only in small amounts. It occurs through the degradation process of Delta-9 THC. In order to get the larger amounts of Delta-8 THC that are found in vapes, gummies and tinctures, CBD is converted to an isolate. From there, a solvent is added to liquify the isolate and an acid reagent is added to create a chemical reaction that produces the Delta-8 THC.

It’s similar to the classic, Delta-9 THC, but does not have the strong effects that regular Delta-9 THC does. This makes Delta-8 THC a suitable option for people with lower tolerance levels or those seeking a mild experience. It is able to accomplish this with less ‘brain fuzz’ and disorientation that comes with Delta-9 THC. Because of the more mild effects, it allows users to remain alert and functional, yet still provide the same benefits and euphoric effect.

  • The testing for Delta-8 THC in products and in people is another gray area. Currently, there is no limit on how much Delta-8 THC a product can contain. However, in order to comply with the 2018 Farm Bill, all Delta-8 THC products must also meet federal hemp guidelines with 0.3% or less Delta-9 THC at dry weight.

When looking at companies who are selling Delta-8 THC, it is very important to choose one that provide a certificate of analysis (COA). Without a COA, it is hard to really know how much Delta-8 THC or other cannabinoids are contained within the product. If you can’t find a COA for a product, or a company will not supply one, those are red flags that shouldn’t be ignored! Here at MedMeridian we have a page dedicated to COA’s for all of the products we sell!

  • Delta-8 THC does in fact get you high, but the high is a milder high than that of Delta-9 THC. It also tends to make people sleepy, rather than euphoric, like most other Indica strains of marijuana do.

Since Delta-8 THC undergoes the same metabolic process as Delta-9 THC when exposed to heat, they are exactly the same, except for the fact that Delta-8 THC doesn't get you as high. This is because it has a lower affinity to bind to cannabinoid receptors in your brain, making it less psychoactive than other cannabinoids.

  • Depending on where you live in the country, it may or may not be legal. Please check your local laws before ordered and/or consuming. Here is Wisconsin, it is fully legal and able to be purchased be anyone over the age of 21 years old.

A California federal appeals court ruled that Delta-8 THC and other cannabinoids derived from hemp are legal under the 2018 Farm Bill, even if the substances have psychoactive properties. So as long as the product contains 0.3% or less Delta-9 THC, you are not breaking any laws here in WI.

  • As the years go by, the ways people consume marijuana is always expanding and evolving. The most common forms of consuming it are smoking it and consuming an edible version of the substance. However, you can also use vaporizers, dab rigs, tinctures, oils, topical creams, and pills.

  • Everyone’s body chemistry is different, so drug testing is kind of a gray area. Knowing that, we can’t definitively say how your body will metabolize our products. However, it is possible to test positive on a drug test with daily and consistent use of Delta-8 THC. This is because the human body processes Delta-8 THC and Delta-9 THC in a similar way.

Urine tests aren’t advanced enough to tell the difference between Delta-8 THC and Delta-9 THC. Since both compounds end up as the same metabolite (THC-COOH), the test will likely find both drugs.

  • Delta-8 THC may cause mild side effects in new consumers, but they generally are temporary and not life-threatening. Common side effects are dry mouth, red eyes, increased appetite, grogginess, and nervousness. However, there have been reports of vomiting, hallucinations, trouble standing, and passing out after consuming Delta-8 THC products.

Most of the negative reports are likely due to the Delta-8 THC being created in uncontrolled and unsanitary conditions. To create the higher concentrations of delta-8 THC for these products, some manufacturers use harmful chemicals. They may also add bleach to make the product look more clear, which consumers assume means it’s more pure.

This is another important reason why you should always ask to see a certificate of analysis (COA) for the product you are about to consume. All of the products that we sell here at MedMeridian have COA’s and can be found here.
